Make the Most of Fall at These Outdoor Spots in Austin

Autumn is a favorite time of year for Austinites. Thanks to an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities in the region, there will be plenty of things to do and explore in the coming season. Here are a few places near Austin to visit this fall – and you’ll find them all just outside Texan 26’s front door.

Take in the Beauty of Zilker Botanical Garden

It’s hard to believe that this oasis in the heart of the city is just about 10 minutes away. Here, you’ll find koi ponds, riparian streambeds, and themed gardens like Taniguchi Japanese Garden. Take a moment out of your busy week to literally stop and smell the roses.

Visit Austin’s Hike & Bike Trail

This 10-mile trail meanders through Bat City, along some of its most scenic natural and urban landscapes. Enjoy the Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake, as well as a host of other beautiful places to see, while enjoying the fresh Texas air. This is a particularly great opportunity for getting around the city in a more active, healthy way than driving or taking public transportation – and it’s a beautiful walk in autumn.

Hike at McKinney Falls State Park

You’ll find some of the best hiking in the region just a half-hour drive away, at McKinney Falls State Park. The paved 2.8-mile Onion Creek Trail takes you along a beautiful area with gorgeous scenery. You’ll get the best views of the creek, as well as its smooth limestone, which has been carved into beautiful designs by the currents of the water over the years. And yes, you can take a dip in the creek if the weather is warm enough!

Get a Bird’s Eye View at Lake Travis Zipline Adventure

Did you know you’re only a 40-minute drive away from the longest zipline in Texas? Bring friends or “fly” solo as you explore Lake Travis and its surrounding canyons in a whole new way – from above! This is definitely an outdoor experience you will never forget.

And remember, if you just need a little quiet time to get away from busy Austin life this fall, kick back in front of the fire pits in Texan 26’s turfed courtyard and enjoy time with your friends.
